2008 Wrap-Up

September 23, 2009 – 10:39 pm
So, as I obviously can't bring myself to update this site often enough, the following is a wrap-up for 2008: I started the year out recording a couple of trax for Jessie Baylin’s Firesight album with Roger Moutenot over at his studio. The album reads like a who’s-who of Nashville rock drummers. I was flattered to be among such esteemed colleagues. Great record. As Josh Rouse wasn't touring with the band, I had a lot of time to hang at home with the family.  Nothing can compare to spending consistent time with a rapidly evolving 2 year old, and my daughter Daisy Rocket is a great hang.  We bought her a little pink drum set for Christmas, and of course she picked up the sticks like she'd been properly instructed on her grip right off the bat and went for it. Anyway, with the downtime at hand, I decided to revamp my ...

Happy Holidays

December 20, 2008 – 3:00 pm
Happy Holidays to one and all. I've spent a couple of days in my studio (affectionately dubbed "The Archie Bunker" as it is a bomb shelter), mucking about with this idea for The Little Drummer Boy.  With a little help from my friends Glen Golda and Hags, after wrangling the unyielding beast that is my computer was able to put this together and present it just in time for Christmas. We arrived Thursday night in Sao Paulo only 2 hours ahead of our normal time zone but it seemed like it was another day completely after the long flight. Once at the hotel, we huddled up at the bar to re-connect for a bit over some frosty mugs of beer (cerveja). Friday morning we went straight to rehearsal. The rehearsal space was interesting. I was behind one of those plexiglas drum shields with barely any monitor; the perfect situation to create a feeling of disconnectedness and disjointedness. As most musicians would tell you, it’s best to have a crappy rehearsal ...

Brazil!

August 11, 2008 – 6:51 pm
I'm heading down to Brazil with Josh Rouse this week. We've got a gig in Sao Paulo on Friday and then the Mada Festival in Natal on Saturday. Never been to Brazil, first time in the southern hemisphere...looking forward to it. Oh yeah, and I get to play. Haven't played with Josh in a while. Should be big fun. I'll try to post some pics.
